Research Phase One:

Preliminary Analysis

(Completed)

This phase of research included the historical and theoretical analysis of Germaine Dulacís ďintegral cinema movementĒ and cinema-related aspects of Jean Gebserís and Ken Wilberís Integral Theories. Defining characteristics of what may constitute an Integral cinematic work were mapped out and developed into of a set of evaluation criteria using the works of Dulac, Gebser, and Wilber. Various cinematic works were analyzed and evaluated using these evaluation criteria. An integral analysis of the cinematic medium and the cinematic creation process was also performed and developed into a preliminary typology of forms of Integral cinematic creation. In addition, an analysis of the potential benefits and challenges for the application of Integral Theory to cinematic theory and practice was carried out.

The results of this phase have been presented at the 2010 Integral Theory Conference and published in an article in the Journal of Integral Theory and Practice:
